Kewaunee is also home to the C.D. Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility. Located along the bank of the Kewaunee River at an area referred to as the Dana Farm, off County Highway F. The Wisconsin DNR operates this spawning (egg-taking) facility which plays a vital role in maintaining the Great Lakes sport fishery for coho and chinook salmon, as well as steelhead (migratory rainbow trout) and some brown trout.
C.D. “Buzz” Besadny was a Kewaunee native who served the DNR and its predecessor, the Wisconsin Conservation Department, for over 40 years. He served as Secretary from 1980 to 1992.
